Didn’t have much to do to prep here. Brought up another tote of firewood that we needed anyways. Noted I had 25 gallons of gas for the generator. Generator is always ready with gas and a fresh oil change after the last use. Pulled my jump pack out of the car and plugged it in so that it’s fully charged and warm. We could go 6 months without buying food if we had to so no prep needed.

Cleaned my chimney and stove pipe with my new bottom up drill brush. Morinoli (Knockoff version of Sooteater). Worked great. Brought in another 2/3rd or so cord of wood into the basement. Filled up diesel and gas cans, put a load on the generator and ran for 15-20 minutes. Pushed backed the existing snow banks to make adequate room. Stocked up on food.

Kinda storm prep. The pending storm persuaded me to make a rack for my smoker firewood yesterday. Now I can cover it to keep it dry.

No real prep here. Kinda dreading heading out today for a couple deliveries and possibly a third.

Stopped at the grocery store last night to PU a pizza for us and had to see the stock in the bread aisle. Surprised there was as much as there was. Maybe half bare.

Sold two truckloads to a lady who heats with wood, I take care of her over anyone else due to that and that she is disabled. She my best customer. I had to get some from the woods, a nice red oak. Another guy, after I told him I don't have any more wood to sell, called me five times more in two days. I finally relented and found him some. Sheesh. People around here wait until the tsunami is within sight before buying, it's crazy. Several other calls but I'm close to out and I burn wood myself. Brought about 50 splits next to the fireplace. Split a bunch of loblolly pine, trying that. It'll def work as firestarter. My sassafras is a fave firestarter, love that stuff, it's like burning balsa wood, lol.

Freezing rain already and a big wad of something inbound from Texas, it'll get ugly. An all day event and then some. But probably just ice, maybe a little snow at the end. Below freezing for a few days straight. Everything is shut down, the highway outside, I hear zero traffic. We could get a couple inches of ice. Thank goodness the utility has been trimming ROWs for months, I have never seen them busy like this all year long. Makes me wonder if they got a grant or something, lol. Bad news is one of their buzzsaw machines ran over and crunched a 28ft ladder of mine. The contractor they hired did me wrong, I will go to the utility now because he's a flake. They will be aghast to know that their contractor is a ripoff dude. I have the texts to prove it.

One of my dogs likes to stay outside alot in his old age but he came in readily this morning after he did his thing, sprinted for the door to get back in, lol. They'll get stir crazy along with me today.

Filled up the woodbox. Got gas for snowblower and quad. Got beer and snacks.
Insulated well house because this morning. Getting ready to go out to cut some 8-10" BL rounds for overnight burns. May replenish one side of stack on porch, but that's not really storm prep.

IIRC our last winter weather event was 2022 (of course there was Helene Sep 2024. were without power for 9 days). Our biggest concern is losing electricity, most of our power lines in this part of the country are not buried. Being on a well means no power no water so we have 5 gallon jugs staged, plenty of firewood put on the deck and the generator is working so the camping trailer is available should we need to have a nice warm place to sleep. Best I can do for now….just wait and see. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst!

Went out this AM to fill the 5 gallon gas can. Snow blower was full but the gas can wasn't. Never know, might have to use the generator I bought 5 or 10 years ago and have never had to use yet.
Also stopped at the grocery store next to the gas station because they had lettuce on sale. Water is gone. Eggs were almost gone. Bread aisle was slim pickings. Forget to check how milk was doing. People were buying popcorn. Being kinda nosy today. :) Planning on extra movie nights ? All I 'needed' was peanut butter and that lettuce.
Always prepared for a couple of days without power and it almost never happens. Usually it is wind and Spring or Fall and it is out for an hour or so.
I worry about ice. Bad ice can be a couple of days, at least potentially.

Pretty much try to stay somewhat prepared...but I'm planning on topping off two gas cans today, and get another rack of wood into the garage, before the snow starts tonight. I have ag tread tires on the lil forklift, but it still doesn't like much more than a couple inches of snow.

Went to town Thursday night and bought the bride dinner. Thought about grocery shopping but we decided no.
Kinda used to it here. Had 2 feet on the ground until a warm up 3 weeks ago melted half of it. Been getting between 3 and 6 inches of snow each day for over a week now. It’ll all be ok

Plenty of fuel for plow truck, snow blower and generator, extra wood on front porch, freezer full of food....and plenty of beer.
I am disappointed in the people around here, panic time at grocery store. Com'on man, we live in PA where it snows sometimes!!!
