I was waiting for that. BTW, a lot of you who say they wouldn't ask, would be gettin' yourselves shot at around here. Those trees are on private property and around here private property is sacred.
Where i live in the PNW, if the county has tree's down like that, where i live. They will tell you, ''we don't give wood permits'', but, if you get caught hauling wood without a permit, you could be fined, or wood taken from you, or both. And, i worked for the county! But, one winter when i'd first started, i had to follow the grader around, and help put chains off and on the grader. Well i needed ''weight'' in the back of the pickup to make it up some of the steep hills. So, i stopped one day, took the saw, blocked up a nice big fir and loaded them in the back. Made it up and down the hills just fine! Then, that evening took them to a nice home, mine!! Had to repeat the same situation for about 3 days, brought home some pretty nice wood that winter.
There are some that are planted in towns south of me but between me and my two neighbors over 1,500 acres and there's not a Oak in them. No sugar maple that can be easily found
What if you took some of the "roadkill" wood...ie the stuff closest to the road mike bayerl ? Do you know if Stihl makes a bulletproof vest?
A day+ later and none of the firewood has been removed. Clearly the landowner is either a firewood hoarder him/herself or is looking to make some $$$ selling it off. Either way, that's fine by me. It's their property afterall. Here's what I saw on the way home from work this afternoon.
Or the landowner is overwhelmed and doesn’t know what to do with or have the physical capability to do anything with it

In my area wood that close to the road and worked in by town or state crews is considered fair game. Owner is supposed to post a sign saying do not take wood. Much of it is on town property in that photo. Of course if it’s right next to a house I still wouldnt just roll up and grab it. Just doesn’t feel right. Unless it sits there for awhile,,,,then I’ll just grab it no questions asked. I always look at the houses in question. If you see a wood burning stack it’s usually not worth asking That sure is some nice wood tho. Branches all gone. Just seems to be reaching out for someone to come rescue it.
