Found this in a storm clean up today. I was thinking it is locust when first found, however when handling and splitting it has a stickyness to it. So I'm looking to you guys with the vast knowledge to identify what I may have here.
I believe that's mulberry, of the native red variety as opposed to the invasive white mulberry prolific around these parts. The sticky description fits, as do the finely toothed leaves and color of the wood.
Mulberry. Yellow heartwood and leaves say so. It will ooze a sticky white sap around the edges when fresh cut in warm weather. Great firewood btw. You done good!
