It works well for small stuff. I keep mine in the stove room for making kindling out of splits.... if you buy it I'd also get a dead blow hammer, for whacking the ram when it gets stuck, sometimes if you whack while it's running it will busy through, other times you'll have to beat the log off of the wedge with the hammer...
I use to take a 4lb hammer out with me , oh ya some will get stuck but they still get split up. ( sometimes if you whack while it's running it will busy through) never thought of doing that I did have one hand free cuz I clamped the push on, power button down while splittin , some have on off switch , that would be better IMO, if you have one hand free to hold the wood in the position you want , I know the Harbor Freight 5 ton has on off switch ,pretty sure home-lite is push button you have to hold down, is that right bobdog2o02 ? , that's something to consider Nicholas62388 before ya go buy one , other brand splitters I don't know
That is the best use of those clamps I've ever seen. And yes. The Homelite has a power button that you must push and the hydraulic lever needs pressed at the same time. I can do both functions with one hand though.....
Before you over-ride too many of those things that force you to use both hands, think about this thread and what it means to you. Be careful out there! (warning graphic) | Firewood Hoarders Club
