I almost bought a mosquito magnet this morning. I did not, 1/3 of the reviews stated it would not operate after a year or two. I spoke with my father, he was jumping up and down raving about a Coleman Mosquito Deleto, that.........is discontinued. He said he ran it year after year until he needed a part (after it was discontinued). I will hope the volunteer dept will aerial spray soon, and see how this summer goes with the outdoor zapper, permethrin, indoor zapper and bug spray. It was 75% better after they sprayed last summer.
The cistern under the house being the breeding magnet( from the sounds of things) 1st step would be to cover it with screen, or bleach it into uninhabitable levels. Won't work for this year but next year: Place 5 gal buckets with normal rain water around your property monitor them for larvae few times a week, once they are there dump on a hot dry driveway. Repeat this process during the start of the season for a few weeks and the numbers you are seeing now will be decimated.
Basod, LOVE your common sense logical answers, you nail the situation all the time Our problem is we live on a lake, and high water this year we also have a cove behind the house.... Don't worry though, the cistern is enclosed 100%, 24" manhole with tight cover We should get crop dusted soon, but I need to cope before that happens....
The spray won't hurt under the house that damp area will be a congregational area for them anyways You live on a lake so you will be infested with mosquitos whenever the temps permit them to fly and propagate. The method works well anywhere there isn't standing water or runoff creeks. How come I've never seen pictures of this lake?
I missed the part that attracts the skeeters close enough to the fan so the air would pull them in. Maybe a light? Bet it works good once they're in there...
Maybe you could rig a half dozen of those right beside your screen door to suck em into the fan as you come inside... could be noisy so wear ear protection...
Thank you GS, I do no think we are up for a new pump, above ground cistern and major plumbing, we will reline the current system . I did want to add though, you have GREAT posts, I just saw the diagram you sketched for Kimberly on the carrier, very nice of you
Hi Greg The bug spray works well. Unusually rainy season here so not as long as 6 weeks but it's a tremendous help! I bought an indoor bug zapper too, still to be installed...... (high voltage, needs to be up and away from the lil one ). Thank you for messages and thoughts on this!!
This is the indoor bug zapper I purchased. Finally got it hung up and working. It scares the bejeebies out of us everytime it zaps a bug. Sounds like a pop gun, or the pop wads hitting the ground at 4th of july. We will have to rethink this one....
Unfortunately both dogs are very upset with the loud split second POP this machine makes. Dear Husband is thrilled ( ), he likes hearing the buggers being zapped . We compromised on leaving this zapper on tonight, and looking for an alternative later....
Wouldn't everyone just get used to it after a few days? Also the more that get zapped, the fewer times it might have to work! I really shouldn't say that everyone will get used to it. Cricket, after 6 years, still hates the vacuum with a passion.
I used the permethrin spray again today (the inept/inebriated hired help only sprayed weeds ) Realized the hand trigger spray is not right for me, this should be delivered this week. I should be able to get alot more done using this
Update, the check I sent to Mosquito Control (required donation) in March finally was cashed last week, the planes must have come through at dawn Saturday or Sunday morning, they are still here but a fraction of previous swarms.
