Being weekend burners, we go through a lot of kindling. I start splitting a few months before burning season and do a little every few weeks. I use my Fiskars Super Splitter. Works really well if you hold the handle closer to the top. Mostly pine for kindling split somewhat small. Gets going pretty quickly...which is key on a cold winter's night...after you've spent 2 hours on the highway with every other boneheaded from the flatlands. Gotta love the sound of the air rushing through the slightly cracked open stove door, the increasing rumble of the fire and the crackling of that pine. Always complimented with Friday Night's BBotW (Best Beer of the Week). That first one in the North Country always tastes wonderful.
