Ive never posted a craislist ad. I have enough at my disposal. As soon as me and my budddies start hoarding from the golf course we have access to I will get all the wood I need. The problem is that I CSS right away. Two weeks later I look back at it wishing I saved some SS for a later date so that I can be a stovesman! I would love to have enough land to be able to Split for 30 minutes to an hour, four days a week.
I hear ya. I enjoy splitting for a bit and try to on a regular basis, especially during the cold weather when wood splits easier. Split a half cord today of white oak and hickory from last weeks truckload and stacked it too. 2 1/2 hours of work. It was at my friends. Have at least half cord of sugar maple and some ash there to split as well. Trying to get the "needing longer seasoning" wood in first. Making room for more rounds to bring there too. Have 2-3 cord red oak and another 2 of hickory here to split. Maybe another cord of rounds and logs as well. May cut a load of hickory tomorrow. If i had a big area to dump wood id be grabbing a lot more of the Asplundh cutting around here and processing later of course.
Have long bar... will travel, if it's within reason. I missed the original posting. That's a helluva big tree!
Ha! You must be able to read my mind. I’m sorry to disappoint but I’m still thinking about it on a daily basis. My 391 is running strong and I just can’t make myself pull the trigger on buying the new saw. I also want a 261. How do you like yours? I believe you said you run a 26o and 441. I have a few cords of the white oak split and stacked I’m thinking 4+ cords are left to go easy. 8-10 cord tree possibly? My plan is to cut all of it once I have burned the majority of my wood from 2016 to be able to just backfill the stacks and not have to move it twice. Hopefully I’ve made the investment in the saw or saws by then. I’ll keep you posted.
I run a 261 and a 460. The 261 was an upgrade for my 290 which sits downstairs and hasnt been used since September. I love the 261. My go to saw now. Pulls a 20" bar with no problem. Just tried it last week with the 16" bar from the 290. Nothing wrong with a 391? Their best farm/ranch saw. Never ran one. Go with a 261 and you wont be sorry. You could always sell the 391 and put it toward the 462. I saw your reply in a different thread and it made me think of this.
Wow. I’d save a cookie of that and varnish it and frame it or something. That is older than this country. It was a young tree when the Revolution was being fought!
