My thoughts as well. I took a ported 462 and 24” HIPA chain to deer camp last week and cut 2.5 face cords of firewood on one tank of fuel and the same chain

I think it's a thing of the past, unfortunately.
Seems to me like the 5 bux a chain was a clearance deal, because they aren't restocking it as near as I can tell.

I now have a stock 241 to compare to the muffler modded / V-stacked 543 after which I'll muffler mod the 241 and upgrade its filter, to a red beard foam unit, that has a 3d printed stack of sorts that the foam is bonded too. More apples to apples then. I'll run them with the chains they came with originally at first. 3/8 lp full chisel on the 241 and .325 X-cut semi chisel on the 543. At some point they will both be on narrow kerf .325.

They are excellent for keeping fines out and flow air like crazy. You can blow them out with pretty high pressure air or wash them. This saw has had one on it for a couple years now. I've only blew it out a couple times. I've had it in a lot of punky wood this year too.

This is the other chain my nephew ordered from another supplier to try. Stens Sabre. Appears to be made by tri link. It doesn't look as sharp as the Rotary Copperhead and it doesn't prick your finger like the Copperhead either. I hurt my back beyond my normal problems so it will be a while before I get some cutting in.

Its why small saws rule for me. Not that I need a big saw if I wasn't all wrecked. That would strictly be CAD. 16 small saws is CAD too I guess. :D

Anything over two, or at the most three, is CAD.... unless you make a living cutting stuff.

But, CAD is a very enjoyable disorder.:handshake:

That looks like a good one. I do wonder if that coating is rendered moot once you touch up the chain? Maybe the coated parts are still somewhat protected though.

If its real and quality TiN coating like many quality drills and machine tool inserts use, it should hold up great. The TiN should always be the leading edge when sharp like the chrome on a regular cutter is.

Something I should have said with this post last night....it IS Trilink Chicom chain so I expect it to be as far below average as any other trilink chain I've used. Ive had a few used saws come with it on them and its barely worth sharpening. Maybe I'll be surprised with this version.

I got the parts and finally got the correct bar mounting hardware on the skanky 241. This is the original 16" ps3 off the XS 241 that will be used in the comparison to the 543. I was able to tolerate running it long enough to reset the Mtronics on it.
