You guys should have seen the inside of that Homelite. That wonderful flap of felt for a filter is about as useless a screen door on a submarine. I thought it was rust inside all over the bearngs ect. I almost tossed the thing in the hopper but, because I already spent money on the seals and gaskets, I investigated. All that "rust" was sawdust fines and earl on everything. Easily wiped off or rinsed out.

Between fall yard maintenance, camper winterizing and building a hunting shack with a composting toilet in the corner, I had some time to get this far on the 543. The plan is to use my air pencil grinder to cut out the aluminum to the scribe line and JB weld the stack to the factory filter mount. It will slip over the diameter and set on that shelf. The nylock nut will be there as well. I've done this before on another saw and it works perfectly. I figured if a porters use the JB in the intake on a cylinder, its good enough to seal these together. Like the Makita, the filter will hold the hood on.

Gotta stop the suck. Its a saw not a vacuum cleaner. :lol:Any additional performance is a bonus. It won't be the first saw Kevin has done of mine that I've already did "stuff" too.

Morning peeps. Sorry this is going so slow. I had other "catastrophes" to deal with. Anyway, stack is JB welded in place. Not sure why I thought I could use that stud to place a nut on as I stated. :loco:  I'll try to get this mounted up this coming week and start the filter cover modding. The nice thing is its not expensive to return to stock. The elbow is $8 and cover is $15. If they were to offer a better factory filter I'd probably change it back because it looks nice stock. Looks matter to the logs your cutting...

Done. But first....I didn't realize the factory filter is two pieces. There is definitely evidence of that seam leaking fines. Id grease that seam for those running the factory filter.

I contacted them a while back, they said they had no plans to bring it to USA.

    The redmax killed trees today.
I'm really liking this little bugger.
Probably has 20-30 tanks of fuel through it now.

Those are nice saws too. You can do a lot of fire wood cutting with a quality 40-50cc saw. I've said it before, my Dad used a Stihl 031AV with a 16" hard nose bar to keep us and another household warm for many years.
