Big bummer on the 543. 10 tanks on the stock Ms 241 filter showed no fines. The 543 has 8-10 on it now. You can see its not going around the O-ring. IMG_20231015_163937085~2.jpg IMG_20231015_163955699~2.jpg IMG_20231015_163926348~2.jpg IMG_20231015_164015232~2.jpg

In case anyone thinks its because I was cutting with a dull chain, ask anyone that tried the saw out and saw the chips and noodles it was throwing all day.

This saw below made one tanks worth of cutting with a fresh Stihl Picco Super chain. Never touched metal or dirt in that tank. Saw was clean before the trip. My type of clean lol. Some of that wood made dust as well as chips.

That Dumonde Tech break-in oil keeps things protected and clean so far.

The ugly factory dogs serve a purpose it appears. Lol.

I put the original one back on for now. I'll make another that keeps the muffler safe but is the same distance from tip to saw from top to bottom.

Also expect a solution for the air filter situation.

Nice eh? Still haven't found if there is really a felt version. I often cut scotch pine branches and dead pine trees along our trails with my 2511 with a very similar type of filter. No fines.

I can't find it on their website after posting the link. It wouldn't hurt to give them a call in the morning and ask. If Husqvarna makes one they will have it.

For my 445 I can get either Nylon or Mesh filters. I don't see felt for the 553.

This saw doesn't know who its dealing with. Lol. I'll epoxy a velocity stack on that filter mount and and have a clamp on filter sticking out the hood with zero regrets.

I've been using the nylon mesh filters on my MS250 for a while now. I just went out and checked it... YIKES!!!

I've been cutting a bunch of smaller standing dead stuff that is very dry and the fines are bad in there... I'm embarrassed to post a pic of inside the airbox, good thing it spits back a lot so that the inside of the airbox is plenty oily and capturing some of the fines, but I'm bummed at what probably when right on out the muffler of this thing.

    :hair:

Oh well. I'll put a new filter on and grease the rim good and see what happens.

A lot of the guys I cut with around here run their saws till it won't cut anymore, kinda sharpen the chain or buy a new one, and maybe, just maybe, check under the hood to clean the air filter... Flip a bar? the hell you say!! You won't be able to read Stihl or Husqvarna upside down... And when they do take the bar off, they never clean it and wonder why the bar oil stays under the clutch cover... Lots of those guys have 20 year old saws that amazingly still run, just sayin'.

I'm trying to spread the religion, but most of 'em wait till the next time they cut with me to get a saw cleaning, but I don't clean a saw anything like you do... LOL I keep telling them that they could have bought an air compressor with all those quarters they put in the machine at the gas station to keep their US Baldy tires round...
