the upper slots quiet it down
allows some of the exhaust to go through the inside baffles
if you dont have the upper slots they are ear piercing loud

My meaning was that I would buy an AM carb AND rebuild the oem with a decent kit... making two carbs for that saw.

Some *aftermarket 1127 carbs had issues with the H not leaning out.

    PM sent. Thanks

Middle picture I assume I am seeing a complete OEM muffler.

First picture I am seeing same muffler with the outside metal cover off and screen removed

Last picture shows two new holes drilled above the square hole, center square cut out, and bottom slots enlarged. I then assume you put that bent metal cover back on, nuts, tighten down appropriately. Am I seeing everything clearly?

Will I need to have on hand a new exhaust gasket before starting this project?

Thanks, this is something I am going to do when the second saw is back up and running.

the gasket is solid metal so dont really need to change it
the upper slots help quiet it down
i do use the original front cover but i cut the opening at a angle so it will still hold the screen and direct the exhaust as the factory intended
the front cover baffles the sound also

Oh yes, saw the fresh cut marks on the outer guard but didn't remember to comment and ask about that. Thank you for all of the advice and when I get it done will post it!
