I'm trying to think how to word this without confusing you more...

If you compare .063 and .050 in standard chain there is no difference in the width of the cutter, .063 chain is more stable on the bar rails and it carries a little more oil around the bar, that's a good thing.

These new narrow kerf chains have a slimmer tooth and take less of a bite, hence they cut faster. Gauge has nothing to do with that. For example...stihls new RSP chain cuts fast because it has a slimmer profile and good cutter geometry for a stock chain..whether it was .043....050....063 makes no difference, it's the cutter that makes the difference.

I primarily run .050 in 3/8 and .063 in .325 because it's what our dealers stock. If I had a dead even choice and they stocked it all I'd buy .063 exclusively.

You want a BIG saw for milling if you can swing it, 80cc at the smallest.

It’s funny how different areas tend to use different gushes of chain….around me everything in 3/8 is .50….i have never had any issues with it, and have to use my 461 with a 32” skip chain in hard woods, it works perfectly…

Seen you got the 400, I got a 261c awhile back…it’s sweet with an 18” bar and I cut hard wood 90%of the time…

That's what my comparison was with. Original .325 stihl RS vs the new .325 RSP.

Ive been happy with my MS400 purchase. Bought with 25” ES Light Bar .050 and my first M-tropic. Only upgrade I made was the large capacity clutch cover and double dogs ( Same as used on 362). Ironically my oldest son has more trigger time on it than me as he has been felling and bucking several white and red oak trees on his property. One caveat is (and this may just be me) but I feel that the oiler is a bit stingy. Plan to upgrade the oil pump, otherwise all good. 20” bar would oil fine IMHO

I don't think its you. Stihl, in general, seems a bit stingy on bar oil. At least the modern models anyway.

Yes, my older Stihls oil more than enough:confused: so I agree that it must be a newer issue.
