Run both around the nose of a bar and watch closely how the bumpers "raise" the raker of the cutter. This is the point of safety chain, regardless of design, to prevent the cutters from getting a big bite as they travel around the bar nose. Reducing the "bite" of the cutters reduces the reactive forces that produce kickback, at the cost of cutting speed.

Earlier in my chainsaw-scavenging career (i.e. last year) I lucked into a top-handle 200T in really nice shape, and later sold it on eBay. It went for a high price too, to a buyer in Australia. I've also sent a 361 in that direction. I'm not sure of the reason (import duties? monopoly power?) but new saws seem to be fabulously expensive there, so for particularly desirable models Australians often outbid Americans. I would guess that's what happened in the case I linked to, too. When I sold my 200T I priced it in line with other recent similar sales -- lower than some -- and got a number of irritated messages from domestic saw shoppers demanding that I justify the high price, as if it just wasn't fair that they couldn't have it for less.

Watching a 23 year old employee run a saw will cause you to keep safety chain.:picard:We had had a conversation about kickback not long before, but he has bad habits that need to be broken.

@Jon1270 Someone was willing to pay the price, the fact that others are upset is not your concern. You didn't make the market.

Oh I know, and I more than half-suspect that they knew very well that the saw was worth the asking price to someone other than them. There were plenty of other 200T's available at lower prices; they just weren't as nice.

    Huh?

Edit: Oh, I bet you meant to point out their articles on bars and chains.
