I wasn't trying to rub it in. I just thought that since some people seemed to be on the topic of wanting a top handle saw I thought that I would post my most recent find. And thanks for the congrats.

Please don't take that wrong I'm just as happy for you as if it was mine. I'm not really like most people now days.. I like seeing people doing well or getting what they want. When I talk to my step daughter I realize why the younger generation is a fail. That said some real good parents are still out there and have some cracker jack kids still.

Ok decided to cut the CAD a little. just listed on CL my like new Stihl 391 for trade for a similar condition 261. Both saws retail for the same $$ so could make for any easy trade.

If anybody interested here is the link

Stihl 391 trade for Stihl 261

That's because it won't sell itself. The market for $500+ 40cc saws is pretty narrow. It's a shame because it's such a great machine. I imagine it will be one of those "rare" models that are highly sought after in a couple decades.

If/when I spend the money I would have a hard time not spend the extra 30-$40 to step up to the 261. The 10 extra CC's and similar weight is well worth it. If the 241 were like $100+ less than the 261 that would make sense.

I will say that the ms 271 is no slouch if you are looking for a 50cc saw.

I have not had the chance to paw the newest version of the 261 but there is a big difference in how the saw feels and handles between my 261 and a 241. The 261 is a do-all machine that runs 16-20" bars fairly well without the bulk and heft of a larger saw. The 241 is more of a specialist with much more enphasis on handling than brute power.

Having a 3003 mount sure doesn't help the 261 in handling. Never have understood why stihl did that.

Probably because even a 3005 mount 18" bar is pretty shrimpy, even on a 50cc saw. Using the 3003 (like the 026 and MS260 before it) allows up to 20" bars and standard 3/8" chain and there was even a 16" Picco option which my 261 wears quite well.

Hello Dakota: Great buy on the 461. With the need for a 261 preferred, is there that much difference in the 026? Are they close to the same?
At 71 years old I like my 046M with the 24" bar, BUT seldom need, or the 038 AV for that matter.
    Thanks for the HELP
    Tommy

So how do you like your ms261....I hear a lot of people like them, hard to believe they shed a pound from previous model.....

Have you or anyone else ran a 026 and the newest version of the 261...I am just wondering how much a difference in power there is between the two....

I would definitely buy a 026 or 260 if I could find a good one for the right price, I just don't see many available in my area. From what I have researched and from the great info that I have gotten on FHC the 261 is slightly lighter than the 026/260 which makes a big difference when using it all day. Seems like most people like the m-tronics auto tune system once the saw is broken in.

I have never run either say and I am interested to see what our fellow FHC members say that have run both the 026/260 and the 261.
