Yup, it will suck air just like you trying to drink the last of a milkshake.

Maybe...but as stated above...your plug doesn't really show lean. A cracked line will make it run wonky though

Fuel line is pretty straightforward to replace - the grommet can be a bit of a pain to get through the tank opening - I use a bit of oil to lube the grommet before pushing through. Curved hemostats are handy for the install. If you are tempted to push the grommet through with a screwdriver - be careful - easy to make a mistake and puncture the new line. Cheers!

I have curved extra long needle nose pliers that work pretty well...hemostats probably easier though, just because of being smaller/more compact

And the hemostats lock - this is a big plus. Cheers!

This reminds me of when my brother in law got a barely-used saw from his boss for free. Boss had said it ran hot, when it even stayed running. Brother in law found that boss had clogged the fuel line and the muffler deflector was blowing exhaust on the cylinder. He flipped the muffler deflector 180° and cleared the fuel line. No more problems.
Now, I never saw the saw in question, and at the time I was too young to know anything about anything. So if this sounds like a load of bull, I'm just repeating what I heard. I'm just saying, where is the exhaust pointed?

That is most likely an exhaust leak. I'd pull the muffler off, check it and the gasket, and get a look at the piston while I was at it.

I pulled the muffler and checked it out nothing obviously wrong, checked the P and C both looked good. I'm going to attempt the fuel line and filter fix (it needs fixed anyway) and see if that solves the problem, getting parts tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.

I'm thinking that the muffler might be loose or it's gasket blown out. A hole in the muffler in the wrong place from a bad muffler mod would cause this too. I'd like to see some pics of the muffler when you get it apart.
Thinking more about it, take the top cover off the saw and see if there are any obstructions to airflow from the flywheel. A 260 sends the exhaust out the right side of the muffler and the proper airflow helps accomplish this.

Make sure the top of the muffler cover is under the lip in the top of the muffler body.

Been there before! Last time when I went in (for my 461 recall) I resisted the impulse to buy a new saw. I got out of the store with a couple files and some B&C oil. Sometimes I think they do recalls just to get people in the store!

I have to ask the obvious with my 026 experience. Does that have a summer/winter cooling air window on it and is it set right?

Yes one the back cover, just outside the air filter. The air window was covered. It was between 40-50 degrees when I was cutting. I wouldn't think having the cover on would make it that much hotter.
