Well I can guarantee you that a ms250 will do what you are aksing.... they were on sale around me for $300(one guy said he got one for $275)....I would get a new ms250 before I got the newer model the ms251...

I have heard the 291 and 251 have what seems to be inefficient oilers(I haven't personally ran one yet)....

Now with all that said, why not just get the ms261.... you like cutting wood and have a good saw line up now....if you don't get it you will always probably regret it..... oh and the new model is lighter, and to me is the best looking saw on the market(and I have a ms461 that I absolutely LOVE!!!).

Oh and yes this site is AWESOME..... there isn't any fighting and arguing like you see on other sites!!!!

There are ALOT of great knowledge guys here that will help you with anything saw related....I have even met a local guy on this site that has helped me a lot!!!.....he has even sold me saws to rebuild, and he answers any question I may ask, just great all around guy!!!!

Oh and one last thing, a year from now you will have twice the amount of saws you do now and you will probably get a grinder too, (I only speak from personal experience!!!) LMAO....:drunk:

261 will hold its value better too. In case you want to sell it.

Dakota Hoarder I called the dealer yesterday who was also unaware of the price drop-originally 609-629 depending on bar length, the saw now lists 559-579. Once he looked online, the price became as listed-I would check it out and point it out-I asked if it was a sale price as that is not indicated and he said it does not appear so, looks like a price drop so maybe one of our dealers here can clarify as that is substantial savings and if it is a limited time offer I will need to ramp up my efforts also as thats a pretty good savings. Just FYI

Funny you say that Dakota Hoarder , It is not but theres times that pics, from many many members, esp bogydave make it clear just how close we are...and as Khntr85 points out, while researching this very saw I stumbled upon "the other site" and a related thread. I was amazed how some there would "attack and ridicule" others opinions and generally just disrespect and dismiss others??? You wont find that here, I guarantee it! It is a special place and glad you are on board--we dont always agree and that leads to different insights, more knowledge and often times some off the wall statement by Eric VW but you'll get used to that too...its all in good fun!

Op, with the saws you have now and it seems as though you are not interested in anything but Stihl.

I would take a hard look at a 241. I do believe that saw would be just what your looking for.

That's a good saw from what I hear...but if Stihl's pricing is anything like Canada's right now, the MS261 price is lower than the 241.

If you spend more than 48 hours in Canada you can bring back US$800 back into the US duty free.

If you go to Ontario, with taxes, it works out to about US$540.

    241cm , 14" with a 6t spur will put a ton of meat on the table .
I know one fella that has blocked over 70 cord of firewood last year with a 241 , 16" , 6t spur and a muffler mod .
I've run the 261 and have ported 026's , had a newish ms230 but gave that one to a friend that needed a saw , the 241 works for me tank after tank after tank , it's the only new saw I have ever bought and not an ounce of buyers remorse , ymmv .

One more thought... If your budget is tight, you could sell the 391 and to offset the price of the 261. They are pretty similar in power, but the 261 is 4.0 hp pro style, mag case, with M-tronic and lighter @ vs. 4.4 hp.plastic clamshell, standard carb and heavier

Sell a saw!!! Are you kidding me! I'm Putting my saws in my will.

Of course I could sell a saw, after all I can only use 1 saw at a time but what fun is that. I know I have to many 65-77 cc saws, but I just cant part with them.

I highly considered the 241, but I think there will be to many situations when I will need the extra hp and length when Im trimming big stuff and bucking small stuff. The way I cut this saw will be in my hands 80% of the day. For some reason, when I start a saw I don't like switching out.
