Gonna be tough to split. Lets the rounds sit for up to a year and it will be a lot easier/cleaner. I forget, do you have a hydro?
Yea I've got a hyrdo splitter. Ran a tank of gas through it today, split about 1/4 cord. Couple tough peices but not terrible to split
Got a face cord of the best 16" pieces split. Anything 18" or more im not gonna mess with resizing, just giving to a buddy with an owb. Probably half a face cord left to split.
Doesn't look like any Elm that I've ever seen...I'd tend to go with your original guess of some flavor of Locust before I'd say Elm...
Isnt there a species of elm with small leaves like that? Siberian elm? Elm ID not one of my strong points.
Yea I'm not quite sure just going off what the tree guy said. Rounds are real heavy. Not one I'm familiar with, was a big yard tree.
Took down a few standing dead trees at my mother in laws. Is this elm? Bark falling off moisture read 30% and under. But split reeaall stringy.
X2 on the elm. Bark beetle tracks and thin bark falling off in sheets checks out. Looks like it was dead for a little while so hopefully it splits okay, if it's even big enough to need splitting. Kind of hard to judge the size.
Yes that's elm. First pic top left side of round are typical borer/grub patterns for elm. Possibly ready for 26-27.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Thought it was elm but haven't worked with enough to know for sure. Mixed in with a half cord of ash and cherry, hoping as it was metering in the mid 20s to 30% it'll be good to go this winter.
Helped a friend down the road with a rotten maple that fell down across their driveway. Got what firewood I could out of it split into the trailer, and hailed the stump cuts and crotches on the flatbed truck. They dealt with the brush.
