I've burned a lot of red and silver maple over the years and always had good luck with splitting it in the spring and burning it the next winter. If you already have splits seasoned for next winter and need this new maple to augment your hoard for the upcoming winter, just plan on using it after the already-seasoned splits. That will give the new splits even more time to dry.

Splitter is in for a weld repair this week so I've been hand splitting. Did a wagon load of sugar maple, oak and black locust today, and bucked some logs down to size with the 026.

A little here and there adds up fast. I split up almost a full cord yesterday. I sure am feeling it today though. Only 50 more to go! :hair::loco:

Brought home a project john deere 318. Hopefully not too much needed to get it running again and then it'll be headed to moms to drag her horse arena and haul a yard cart. Came with a 3 point cultivator. Needs a battery and 4 tires to start but the motor turns over. Its been sitting in a barn a long time, I imagine it'll need a carb clean at minimum

Yup, 318 has 3 blown tires, I dragged it up on the trailer to move it behind the barn for now.

It should be a fun project. I did a JD214 several years ago. Frame out full restoration, engine rebuilt and everything repainted. It was not like but better than showroom new! I enjoyed doing the work and used it for several years with mowing deck and a PTO tiller. Hated to part with it but needed a small tractor with a larger 62” deck. IIRC there’s a site on Yesterdays Tractor that has a separate thread for lawn/garden tractors that would be a great resource and also source for some parts you may need that may be NLA from the dealers. Need pictures of your progress :D

    I do
I found a good source for parts about an hour from me, guy has a salvage yard for john deere garden tractors. Checked it out the other day and got a steering wheel, body sheet metal and new hydraulic levers for a whole lot less than ebay prices. I've never done anything more than simple maintenance on my 330, this one will be a learning experience.

If you ever need a parts resource, my uncle and nephew in SD restore full size and garden JD’s. I’m sure they could provide some pointers. They have stuff back to Waterloo Boy.

Even mo’better:thumbs:. Take pictures before you take things apart and during disassembly it will help tremendously when you go to put her back together. Have fun with it! I’m not surprised that you have good parts resources being where you’re located.

Field across the road had a good sized dead ash I've been watching for a while. Farmer was out discing today and I noticed him pushing it out of the way, into the ditch. I headed over and asked if he cut wood and he gave me the ok to get it gone. Good size tree, its been a while since I put 2 tanks through a saw on the same tree. Used the 026 today, probably should've got out the 590 for the bigger part of the trunk but I just cleaned it up. Good sized load and didnt have to carry far.

Tree ID? Its one I've never worked with before but is this a honey locust? Buddy from work lives close and a tree service just took this down. Real heavy rounds but hoping its worth the haul
