Theres WAY more to go, but figured I'd go and spend a little time with the saw.

I didn't plan to hit the downed ash in the woodline, so I didn't take the cart.
Guess I'll have to go get the rounds tomorrow. There's still a bit left to cut up, but a lot of it is cut.

Main objective, the downed pine. (old pic)

    And so it begins..

    Starting to look much gooder..

Still a bit left to get to, but the firepit is getting some love..

That's gonna light up the night soon. :dex:

Looks like I'll need a new bungee for strapping down the saw.

Indeed. :handshake: We burn a lot of that red pine here. I prefer it over poplar cause the smell of that stuff burning makes my eyes water - pine is much more pleasant.

But I’d probably even save that trunk piece for boards myself. Bark is still attached so there still should be some good wood in there.

It's pretty small. Didn't check diameter, but I don't think it's really much more than 12" if that.
Also, I have no way to board it out currently.

Just saying that’s what I’d do; cause it looks like ya got some good wood there to me. :handshake: Not everyone is a fan. But I’d burn that. :fire:

    11" across @ trunk end, 8.5 @ first cut. Maybe 6.5' long.
Not sure that I'd get much from it.

Well, after being here and reading that burning pine is not the huge issue I was always led to believe, I don't have an issue with CSS and burning it.

Just not sure that boarding it out would net me much usable wood.

Well I suppose that is a bit smaller than I thought. Hope you didn’t take my comments the wrong way. Just meant to say I thought it was some good wood, not that it’s too good to burn or anything like that.

My neighbor has a wood mizer LT40 he parked over here all last summer and I’ve got 32 more logs on deck waiting for round 2 this year. Of course I’d take a closer look at it before I’d pay to have it sliced. But I’ll saw just about anything that’s decent sized and straight.

The stuff that doesn’t make that cut a lot of times gets sawn by me into decking for my firewood pallets. Or else c/s/s on top of it. I like pine.

Nope, didn't take it the wrong way. It's just that I'm looking at it and you're seeing a pic.
I do have larger pines that I've been contemplating cutting down and boarding out, but I don't know well enough to gauge how much lumber I'd get from the trees.

Also, before I do have someone bring a mill around again, there's a large oak that I am trying to figure out how to drop and move about to have it boarded out. I still have plans for a gun cabinet made from oak that is of this property.

As to the pine, how long should it be allowed to season generally speaking?
I do hope the pine tar/sap will not be an issue at that point as well.

    Thx Shawn Curry

Chaz, go ahead and CSS that pine, its great shoulder season wood.

Shawn Curry is a great guy and wood worker extraordinaire. He makes some beautiful hand made furniture so he is always :binoculars:looking for saw logs, to make his creations.

Until you 4 years ahead on firewood, have place to dry the lumber and tools to turn into lumber. Its firewood!!

Then once you got all that covered you only need his, Shawns, work ethic and talent and trees. :handshake:

Of course pics of fire when you light it are required:yes:

Red pine if split now should be ready by fall

Thx for that Canadian border VT I was already planning to CSS the wood, but wasn't sure on seasoning timeframe. Could certainly use some shoulder season wood, that'll save some of the hardwood for when it gets actually cold.

I agree with you on Shawn Curry , I've seen his woodworking, and have already notified him that I'll be "picking his brains" for some woodworking and milling advice.

As to 4 years ahead on firewood, that'll take a bit of time, and a lot of work.

I am currently working on a woodworking space, and am nearly there I think.

    And the journey continues!!
