    Many great thinkers in the past lacked the technology to see their inventions through to a practical application.

    I am sure (or at least hopeful) that we have such thinkers today.

    Then of course, there are the fortunate accident's that create something useful, that was not the "intended" end product.

    You'd really enjoy a certain book then, widely considered to be the number one seller of all time, written a few thousand years ago by a whole bunch of different people, full of many predictions, many have already happened, some not...yet. Super accurate too...:)
