Good or bad? I just split this oak and didn't have room in my wood rack.
This is between a pine and sweet gum.
Used some old pressure treated timbers for the base.

I’ve thought about it, but assumed the tree movement would keep knocking the stack over. My stacks in racks may be worse for falling over than between trees.

I think we all have done it at one time or another. Those trees are big and unless you go very tall (over 5-6') i think youre safe. Like Chud says ive had them fall in both instances!

When my racks are full and I have more wood to stack, between trees they go.

I'll use a couple of saplings or branches, as rails between the trees. You still need to get the stacked wood off the ground.

    Stack away!

Many do it. I do not like it. To me it just smacks as disrespect fot the tree and lazyness. Learning how to properly crib the ends is a very easy skill and takes no longer or very close to the same time as regular stacking. Also, many complain they don't like to stack wood. Usually it shows when you look at their stacks. Take a little pride in your work.

I see your points. I actually enjoy stacking and plan for this to be temporary until I build some new pallet sheds.
I don't have much respect for sweet gum trees as they grow like weeds around my property. :hair:

They can be as bad as poplar, Virginia pine and tree of heaven and cover the ground with those dam spiked balls.

I would not mind stacking between trees.

    If I had some.

I've done it. The stacks tend to fall over eventually from the wind wiggling the trees.
    Especially pine trees.
On a real windy day go out and sit on the ground with your back aganist a pine tree trunk. I've done it and felt not just the trunk wiggling slightly but the roots and ground moving as well. Could just be the dirt here, but stacking between trees just doesn't work very well. But I do it every now and then. mostly out of necessity.
Supposedly, some tree trunks can be damaged by the stacked wood, but I've never seen any damage. Not that I have an extensive selection of tree varieties to experiment with.

I do it every year with half a dozen cedars behind my house that are 10-18" diameter. The stacks are no more than 6ft long and usually waist high.

You should be fine. Don't make it too tall. Or as Dennis mentioned, crib the ends.

Yep I did get out and use about 10 of them saws this year. I think I felled about 32 trees this year. One in the cemetery and the rest in the mountains.

People do it all the time. Just don't expect the wood to season very quickly in all that shade.

No need to be sorry. I still love to see her name and hear it too. I even talk to her and yes, sometimes she is in my dreams, like last night. Those indeed are sweet dreams.
