St. Lawrence County, declaring state of emergency due to high fire danger, bans open burning for a month
    Tuesday, May 31, 2016 - 2:31 pm
CANTON – Because of dry conditions and fire danger, St. Lawrence County has declared a state of emergency beginning at 6 p.m. tonight for two weeks, through 6 p.m. June 14.

The state of emergency has been declared due to extremely dry conditions resulting in numerous out-of control grass and brush fires throughout the county that have the potential to threaten public safety, according to St. Lawrence County Emergency Services.

As of 6 p.m. this evening, “no person shall intentionally set an open fire throughout St. Lawrence, with the exception of a campfire at a designated state, federal, or Department of Environment of Conservation licensed campgrounds where the camp fires are in fire rings that confine contain the camp fire,” the emergency declaration states.

“This order supersedes all burning permits and will extend through Tuesday, June 14th, 2016 at 6pm unless rescinded or extended,” the order said.

It was sent by Michael LeCuyer, Emergency Services Director, and James Chestnut, Supervisor of Dispatch Operations.

We've had a bunch of rain recently, yet there's still a burn ban. Pretty dry, and windy.

It's been real dry here, I would say if this dry weather continues the brook will be down to late July levels in two weeks if not sooner.
