Your good in the corner but still to flat. So keep the file on the corner like you did there & bring the tip of the file against the tie strap.
I am had the file on a 35* angle in the pic I posted last night. It is just barely missing the tie strap.
Square file addiction disorder!!! Lol. Hey Tom. Couped up so what better to do... Here’s some pics for angles.
Like concretegrazer said It looks like you may have your file too flat. Look real close at Jason's string of 3 pics. Take note on how the body of the file is slightly rotated up towards the cutter. I try to think about 3 angles when trying to file. 1. The up down angle of the file - how far I have the file tilted up off of the chain. 2. The in out angle - how far I have the file off of parallel from the chain. 3. The angle that I have the file rotated towards the cutter.
So now I am curious, this jaunty little angle/curve/whatsitmajig is it a deliberate feature or happenstance caused by the length/angle of the files used to make the cutter the way you wanted? If it's deliberate and you wouldn't mind I would love to see a trailing shot of that cutter, I am curious what that feature does. thanks Dave
That's just to remove .000002345 grams of weight Dave. No seriously it's just happenstance from my tunneling. I have the cutter in vice grips for that & shaping the rakes.
Thank you sir, when i am looking at chains that i know are built well sometimes the stuff that doesn't matter just makes me think i am missing something important LO
I prefer to file with one hand it too. I started doing one side left handed. I never got it perfect left handed though
I see what you guys are saying how it looks "flatter." I'm not to far off the tie strap now, so I don't see how I can increase it. I'm not trying to build the baddest chain right now. I'm just trying to learn the basics. 1. I have the file on a 35* angle 2. I also file the on a 35* angle. Is that too much, making it look flat? 3. I have near perfect 90* outside side plate angle.
