There's longer than the normal 7". Used to be double ended which were awesome.

So there is no difference in thickness and width?

Not that I've noticed in 5 brands of double bevel. I didn't ever measure with calipers to see either.

In the 3 brands I’ve used, no. Hold them end to end and they’re the same. Bahco Stihl and SaveEdge.

Picked up an Oregon 72cl square yesterday and a couple files going to give them a try. More of a reference chain for me than anything I guess. 063F121C-832B-4D40-9390-7DD28C072FDB.jpeg 7DB95897-C849-4F5F-8C52-29FDF4E5BF3F.jpeg 2231707D-2434-47D5-A863-0E1C793ED39D.jpeg

Just got a few Viiala DB from Madsens, they are nice, must have some extra chrome compared to a few other brands. The seem to be more silver. My homelite410 vise should be at the PO today. I will try them out. I have some save edge that I have been using. From a visual QC the Viiala seem to be better. To my eye the SE seem to have chattered as it went through the process. The edge lines are straight and crisp.

New to square filing. Yesterday I cut with a fresh loop of 72cl. While it felt factory sharp, I just finished practicing filing. I am very light handed to follow and learn the angles. I spent an hour on a 72 drive loop, and used a led light and magnifying glass to check each tooth and try and keep factory specs. I also used a Viiala and found it much smoother than the Save Edge. Maybe I am being more aware/gentle I did not feel the chatter that I did with the SE. I filed on the bar, anxiously waiting on my MM vise. If I was forced to chose a file the Viiala would get the nod. I was looking at the SE with a magnifying glass, the edges look wavy. I will get some pick up later.

Here is the 72cl I touched up, have some consistency to work on. It cut really good in the load of white spruce I got this morning. They were done with the Viiala db 8B1863B6-B99A-41F4-AB56-243F173F7878.jpeg EEA5ED01-F050-41EE-8B09-5DF6E2CA735A.jpeg 519B079E-B995-413C-A894-088D817874EA.jpeg 453CEC17-3FB6-4546-8981-F67BB00A8110.jpeg 74914C5A-A022-4E76-AC72-9F61A309B921.jpeg BE7576B7-8B99-4EF3-87EC-C419B6F1FD95.jpeg 51EEF5D3-70A1-4C04-B44F-074ECED3E74E.jpeg

If it cuts good, then it cuts good.
The side beak'd cutter in my avatar cuts fast for a few cuts, but isnt terribly durable
Two more light strokes to the left picture above made it as sharp looking as the right hand picture

You are closer than you think !

It cut really well, nice long chips, cut 3 spruce, limbed and cut 50 or so rounds. On the last round the chips was 3/4 to 1 1/2 were long ones and 1/4 or so the short ones. Right at 20” tree, standing dead beetle kill, temp was -6*. To be honest it was dark when I started and did not pay attention to the chips. The last of the rounds I just happened to look, picked up a handful and looked at them.
