OK, time to get schooled ............ my chains are heading out tomorrow and there will be 3 of them. RS and RSL untouched and fresh off the roll as well as my feeble attempt at my first race chain. I aint too happy with the cutters (whats left of them I mean) but I cant stand the thought of making another due to the HUGE amount of time, files, and carbide burrs that I went through. I might just spin in all new cutters when I get this back to save time Anyhow, I have the addy and I will send Hedge a PM with the tracking ...................... oh yeah, that school thing ................ I am sitting in the first row, up front so I can learn !!!! That pic above aint right Hedge ............... I aint scared, but that top plate edge is nothing to laugh at ............ what are you using - a 4 side goofy ??
Me too !!! Biggest thing I learned (besides how to file square) was to keep a file for left cutters and a different file for right cutters. The tie straps do damage to the teeth of the file, keeping one for left and one for right keeps the files sharp and no more skidding across the cut face
I use old ones to make the first stroke or two on the cutters to try to keep from chipping a new file or my old oberg files.
Thanks. What angle should I file the gullet, 90*? I think I read it is okay to use a round file in that area. I did some timed cuts the other day with the chain on the 034 super so I can see how much I gain or loose when I file it.
O take it back where the file won't hit it when filing the cutter. Saves wear and tear on the files and is less resistance.
Got a chance to use this chain in Cabool last week. It was all that 65cc Partner wanted... But moved some pine pretty quick...
It borders on useless, but it does like to eat... Has no business on a 50cc saw, 65 is questionable... But I just hate moving chains around, so it and the Partner just have to learn to get along...
I usually dremel material out then file once the junk is gone... That chain has been hacked on with every tool imaginable... It's nearing the end of it's life...
I cleaned this gullet out. I had to file it on a 35* angle. The file would not go in there on a 40*, it will though as the chain is sharpened more. How does this look?
