I am sure your chain will be the furthest away from being a dud !!!!! Work is picking up the pace, so I am going to have to just send in the new chains for baseline (RSL & RS). I am going to have to settle on keeping this square filed chain my work chain, I could send it in, but I feel it would be wasting your fuel for this competition. It wont take too long to prep another for work use, so I wouldn't be suffering without it, especially now that I can square file easily now. No matter who finishes in whatever place, I would love to see the videos of this threads participants !!!! I will be watching how the rest of the chains progress. I have learned so much from your Dudes help, and thank you !!
Dex what dl loop uou want to try? I may have time to file one but it won't be a whole lot of work done to it. I've got s a way to finish before I get back on chains.
I'd like an 84 DL (25" Stihl 3/8" x .050). But a 60 DL would work as well or 66 DL... I'd send you a chain to replace, or cash? PM if you think you'll have time?
It looks like I'll be home this weekend. I'll look and see what I have laying around. I think I have a 84DL full comp left. I know there's a new 20" loop. I only have 1 60 dl loop. It's for my 550.
I have one I could send. But I would have to send it tomorrow. .The GTG is only 9 days away. It's no big deal. Just wanted something to compete with the couple 064's that will be there. @SquareFile has a mean and angry 064.. Chain is the name of the game. And he can make a chain!! I seen it!!!
I've got one I'm going to send to Mo for November if you want to try it out. I think I've got more but they're .063".
Yup.. Running it in clean wood a few times ain't gonna hurt a thing... Just clean the burrs off it...
Wasnt the first to go here, sure I wont be the last .................... final sharpening still ahead. I might just make it Hedge !!!
I want to learn to square file. What would be the best way for me to learn? Should I buy a loop a chain that is square ground or should I take a loop of round and try to square file it? What is the difference in using a flat file or a triangular shaped file? Can I use a Stihl flat file like I use on the rakers?
It helps to have a loop to visually look at. Flat files will not work. You will need six sided beveled edge files. Even the triangular have six edges and are more difficult to use. They won't give you very much side plate surface.
I'll get some chain so I have something to look at. Is this the kind of file I need?http://www.baileysonline.com/Chainsaw-Parts/Files-Filing-Tools/Double-Bevel-Chisel-Files/Pferd-Double-Beveled-Chisel-Files-Each.axd
Yes that is. I buy some from autotoolworld.com. Bahco brand for chisel chain. You have to buy 10 at once but they're $6 a piece.
What kind of chain do you guys recommend I start with? That is a good price on those files. Too bad they don't sell them individually. Since I'm going to be starting out I don't wanna get 10.
Oregon is softer and easier to file. Get a loop of CL or two from Madsens and use one and keep one for reference.
I was looking at the Oregon CL from baileys, they have free shipping on it but it looks like they want $10 to ship a $7 file.
