Always shoot for the corner of the file to line up perfectly and make a nice hard line right through the center of the working point.
If you're off one way, you'll get top beak.
If you're off the other way, you'll get side beak.
Side beak is what you have now, and cuts better than top beak, but always shoot for perfect bullseye right through the center of the point..
Nobody is perfect, but it's what we all strive for.

The pot calls the kettle black ........... again :picard: :p :D

In all seriousness, both you and Mike helped me tremendously .............. thank you to both of you  :saw:

Now ............ when are you havin another chain "event" ?
I got a few work chains (that I found in a wheelbarrow full of water, then I let them sit in some WD-40 and after their bath I used an old worn out file to put a dull edge on) that need a workout.

I am a rookie at best, but you are not getting the whole top plate. Your missing the very edge, which means your filing back from the corner and that will make you lose top plate angle.

Also, I still see several angles on your side plate?

Can you snap a pic of the file in the tooth (not the angle, just the file in the working corner )?

Arrow shows where file is missing. And then the other blue line shows the various angles

I think you are still using the wrong working corner on the file? Or you haven't filed back far enough to fix the damage you did earlier

Matt's pic (drawing) was a good one.

Also, I was told a mistake I was making. I was working hard trying to keep my corner, but I was losing top plate angle. I concentrate on the angle first (working from the outside in, and then lining up the corner of the file to the corner on the cutter.

Again. I am a rookie as well. But I have had a good teacher, that gave me several good lessons, and he gives me constructive criticism on the cutters he looks at. In all honesty, it has helped me because of the mistakes I made. Those mistakes make him better describe what I am doing wrong and ways to correct it.
