The other morning I woke up around 4:30 and turned the light on to let the dogs out. When I opened the door I was met with a wall of flying insects. I told the dogs they were on their own and quickly shut the door . I couldn't believe how many of these things there were. They were swarming at every door and any light on the exterior of the house. They were so thick near my shop light that it looked dim. Turns out they're a type of aquatic non biting midge. More than likely came from the cranberry bogs behind the house that are currently under water. Thankfully only a few dozen seemed to have gotten in the house.
If you live near Lake Erie the north wall your house will be brown covered with them every June. Their sole purpose in life is to fly in your eyes, nose, mouth and ears,
