All good points above....and in my case, it makes even less sense to burn pellets right now since I have NG. Having said that, the Warden likes the cells in the prison to be at 74-76 degrees. Hard to make that happen with NG and it's 10 degrees out. Going into my 20th straight year with pellets. I'm not looking back.
I prefer pellets over oil but have not paid over the $200/ton rate for a while. Sheep are getting out of pellets and rushing to the cheapest way to heat, thereby creating some great bargains. If as many sellers were "moving" as you read in the ads, there would be no real estate recession. Some of the "spring pricing" I've read here and elsewhere leads me to believe some suppliers still have their head in the sand relative to market conditions.
I'm not sure many retailers have their head in the sand.....we see folks buying, or not buying. Its trying to convince the manufacturers and wholesalers that this *might* go into fall/winter, which is the time of the year they look forward to....they still don't have a clue what's gonna happen....retailers aren't sure either, but I think we might have a better handle on it than they do. If its a light winter, I'm pretty darn sure some of the options we enjoy today wont exist. If its a bad winter (bad is where its really cold and snowy, and fuel rises in price), then its not gonna be good for the people who have not planned ahead and secured their supply. Hindsight is certainly 20/20. Ourselves, we are literally guessing at what's going to happen, buying what we think we will need, maybe a little less, since no pellets moving means no cash flow, and hoping the Perfect Storm of high fuel costs and a harsh winter don't happen....its really no fun dealing with pi$$ed off customers when they cant get product, but its REALLY no fun going out of business either......this business is guesswork every year.
Yeah... slow here... moving some, nothing like last season, but we all expected that... One problem we see where we are, is often times stock is available, but no way to get it here... (when you need it fast) That is where our waiting usually happens... But no doubt... seems like no two years are ever the same.. and yes... it's almost always a guessing game! Dan
went to lowes today for some stuff, and swung around back......same as last week....just north americans and a busted up ton of timber heats.....online search of box stores yields nothing in my area
i checked last week nearest store that had anything was new milford ct as far as tsc goes not close to me.....no biggy im just a pellet pig.....i think alot of the fun is in the hunt. my buddy got a ton of big heat in new milford a week or so ago
Those PTLs finally sold in the last couple weeks. I feel bad for the one who got landed with them. They sat outside day and night uncovered for ages and were rained on multiple times. Last time I saw them, the price marker said 40% off, yet the price was still listed at $5.59. I didn't really care for the ones I picked up at lowes in March. Extremely high ash output. Then again, I probably just got a bad batch as usual.
They probably thought they got a great deal though.. * Hoping they didn't purchase a few tons of wet sawdust.. ( At $ 167.70 / ton, if I didn't know any better.. )
Agway Torrington $235 for Blackstone's CT pellet has them at $239 BT Ent has Fusion blend at $225 NO need to buy any, But still keeping tabs on pricing for giggles.......
