Me either , I could squeeze some more in , but I can hardly move in the garage now , and my Honey saw the coupon she said "don't even think about it "
I got both those - I think I'll chance making It thru the winter with the 11 tons that I currently have.
It seems a lot of the pellet houses are digging in their heels. My thinking is they will try to maintain some resemblance of a profit (keeping head above water) by moving less product at a higher profit margin. The cost of dino seems consistent with no warning flags. I truly believe that the majority of pellet burning was intended for cost savings over dino. But with pellets over $200 a ton, it doesn't seem to be a savings unless you have some old clunky furnace. I am driven to burn pellets as an alternative to cord wood because we love the heat from wood burning. We love watching the fire. My wife likes the house at 80F which is restrictive even with dino. I have a winter's supply of pellets sitting in my garage so I am all set for next winter as far a heat is concerned. I checked out SIB's web site http://www.sibwoodpellets.com/Home.php Seems some organization changes there. He has some pellet prices listed on the page" ABOUT US. "
Well, maybe if you were a pellet dealer, then perhaps the sky is indeed "falling". Must be very hard trying to stay in business when you have no idea what your business will be. Lets face it, we all thought the price of oil would jump right back up. Still might, no one really knows. But, if you are on this forum, chances are, you are prepared for the next winter. Some are prepared for the next three winters.
Well, if the sky truly falls, I can still burn them in a fire pit (since there would likely be no electricity) - then maybe build a rocket stove
I can tell you unequivocally that yes, its pretty tough to guess what the business climate will be in the fall/winter! How much product to pre-buy when you've no idea how much you'll sell. Heck, if I knew what fuel was going to do this season, I sure wouldn't be selling pellets! Most pellet folks are being pretty conservative with their buying at this point, and I don't really know what this will do to the later market. Yea, folks here do plan ahead, but, like Ive said before, you folks are the extreme minority! The rank and file pellet user still has some product left over from last year, so they don't feel like they are in any rush to buy....yet. Maybe they never will? Burn dino's first- its easier? If I were to guess, pellet sales will certainly be down, but I also feel folks who are going to burn will wait possibly until later to procure their supply.....heck, they have time, they have a ton, a half ton, etc., in their basements.....they have time. Now, if it gets cold early, or fuel rises, I REALLY have no idea what happens! So, yea, we have no idea whats going to happen either.
i try to plan ahead but theres not much out there at box stores anyway. this will be my second season, think im gonna go to a pellet vendor in torrington and pay a little more but get a better pellet.....i would have gone by now but they are closed till august seems i cant be an early bird at the box stores(no product)or at the pellet vendor(closed)
Oil down 5 percent; biggest drop since Feb on Brexit, supply builds Reuters - 1h ago NEW YORK Oil prices tumbled 5 percent on Tuesday, with U.S. crude heading for its steepest daily decline in five months, as investors worried that Britain's exit from the European Union would slow the global economy, making it unlikely energy demand ... Oil ends down nearly 5 pct on Brexit worry, supply builds
At that current rate of $46+ per barrel, pellets still beat oil in price (reasonably priced pellets anyway). But then there's the convenience factor so who knows.
It does, but not by much. Using the pelletheat.org calculator, oil at $2.19 (avg here in Mass) and pellets at $250/ton, oil is 81 cents more per million btus. $20.35 vs $19.54
maybe we are at a tipping point? Price continues down....cheaper to burn oil......price (of oil) goes up, pellets are cheaper. One thing though, if you have your winters' worth of pellets, you know your cost....but whats oil going to be in January? Who knows?
sort of like preaching to the choir on here, but we are really in the minority. It is because of that tipping point that I plan to keep a full reserve of pellets as I find them at what I consider a good price point for me. The federal government has not given out any cost of living increases because the lowering of energy cost has tip the index to show no cost of living. If you are dependent on dino, then your cost has come down. But everything else is higher. Much higher in many cases. best advice I know of is have options, and to use the most efficient stoves, furnaces etc. and of course, insulate to the max.
