In July they were $299/ton with a $10 discount off any amount so I snagged a half ton for $140. Looks like they are up to $309/ton now.

Incidentally, the bark mulch place has two locations, one in Shrewsbury and the other in Westboro (that's the place I got the La Cretes). Great place and the workers there are very friendly. They are one of the few (possibly the only) places that does NOT charge a huge fee to buy by the bag. Whether you buy by the ton or by the bag, the bag price remains the same, and I like that so they got my business. I may even go back and pick up a couple bags of Dry Creeks to see that all the hype is about.
    :D

That is an interesting tidbit of information. I may pay them a visit for half a ton.

Propane is $0.90/gal right now. My Fahrenheit won't see a match this winter.

Dry Creek lost some since the sale(good heat but ashy). But Timber heats at box store price's make a better deal. ;)

BioMaxx are baggin the TH and PA's at the Pennsy mill IIRC. Where the Creeks are still made in the old NY mill. Quality is fairly similar. Some PA's are bagged at the NY mill.

They still make the Dry Creek Super Premium at the NY mill. A bit harder to find. Much cleaner that the standard rations they serve, About the same heat maybe a scosh more?? You should see if Joe can round some up for you and Steve.

Oh no! Not according to Doug M. You WILL burn pellets, regardless if they cost more to heat your home. PERIOD!

Agreed But the Creeks get pellet house prices so TH are usually a better bang for the buck.

Way back yonder when they were a mom and pops deal? They had better stuff IMHO. I swore by em for 3 seasons until the Lumber yard got a bit greedy with his prices.

I had to run all over the place after work so I took the opportunity to stop at 3 different HD locations to see what they have.

First one had a little over 100 tons: 40 MWP, 40 Nation's Choice, 20 Chows
Second one had almost 300 tons. Nearly all of it was Therma-Glo with a small quantity of FSU, Chow, and Maine's Choice
Third one had about 700 tons. Almost the entire supply was split Nation's Choice and Big Heat. The rest GS, Maine's Choice, and Therma-Glo

This is not shaping up to be a good year for box shoppers. Especially with the price being at $269 for this stuff?
