I used to hang my deer tallow and fat up in a mesh bag and the birds loved it. Any more the raccoons would have it down and in the brush the first night! Pine Martin would be fun to see!
Starlings and sparrows shipped free anywhere. Tons of robins and turkey vultures. Saw a few bluebirds last week. Killdeer are squawking 24 hours. I found an egg on the sidewalk but i think it was a sparrow.
That's awesome. Short beard for a grown bird. Once the 5's get turned loose, they ain't too picky though...
Dandy Tom there. All full of himself! We had several Rock Doves scratching under the feeder this AM. Peeked out the slider and they flew. Very wary they are!
We always figured for sure when the killdeers moved in, spring is here for sure. Always remember them when working the fields in spring. Watching them with their wounded acts. Amazing. It always bothered me that we'd probably ruin some nests but there always seemed to be plenty of birds.
I watch for the killdeer when I'm workin the fields. The babies are up an running not long after they hatch. Cute litte buggers. I've caught and moved a couple when they hunkered down right in front of the tractor.
Yeah. I used to do that all the time. Perhaps what tore me up the most was pheasants when cutting hay. Used to always have a few barn cats too with no front paws.
Wild animals have taken over the streets in major cities because of the coronavirus pandemic Maybe this explains some of the bird and animal behavior lately. Animals aren't pulling these stunts in my 'hood'...they know folks round here have itchy trigger fingers and can make gravy!
Here's an interesting observation in my own back yard. I've taken a picture of my dog on her birthday (april 2nd) each year in the same spot on my deck. When looking at the pictures I noticed that the plant growth in the background this year is noticeably behind previous years. So in short, maybe things are just late.
Plenty of Robins here. They were out in full force the end of last week and here every morning pulling worms out of the ground. Seems to be more nightcrawler activity than in years past. Every day the yard is loaded with worm casings from the night before so easy picking for the birds in early morning. Also nesting in the pine tree near the house , it seems that they come back there every year .
Things are early here. Most all daffodils are past done, the pine pollen is already horrible (for at least a week). There will be more than the usual amount of low-green in the bushes next Saturday when turkey season comes in.
Had to laugh! Whole flock of Rock Doves (very wary birds) under the feeder sucking up the dropped sunflower seeds. In the midst of them was one gray squirrel doing the same. When I drew the curtain and peaked out the slider all the doves took off in an explosion of feathers and noise all around him. Poor squirrel bout had a heart attack. Still chuckling about it!
