My wife said she heard some spring peepers a couple days ago. I haven't heard any yet but my hearing is not as good as it once was. Well, several things of mine aren't as good as they once was so what the heck?!

I've seen more sand hill cranes this year than normal.

Haven't seen a Robin yet, but saw a few bluebirds a couple weeks back. Been hearing peepers for about 2 weeks as well. Expecting Robins any day, followed by hummers a couple weeks later.

The wife saw the first two Robins of the year yesterday. Lots of solo geese flying by honking away.

Two items for us bird loving member here.
First, drove out to Denver with my son on Easter Sunday for him to start a couple month job at one of the ski resorts for the end of the season. Great to travel thru the heartland mostly as a passenger since he did most of the driving. In the western Nebraska sand hills saw the great flocks of the sand hill cranes. Impressive sight. Mostly grey in color but saw a few flocks of white, couldn't get close enough to see if they were different in just color or was it some other bird. I must say the western Nebraska sand hills are a unique ecosystem.
Second, I am going to set out my Robin shelves, as I call them. The Robins are looking for places to make a nest. So, I just put up a small pc. of pine about 6" x6" in a corner that is somewhat sheltered and they setup housekeeping. I had two nest in the yard last year. So, going to see what happens this year.

Any chance the white flocks were snow geese migrating north?

Soon the geese will be here
Not a lot of open water yet but some of the marshes & the tidal areas are open.

They sure didn't look like geese to me so whooping cranes might be correct. They were way off the road so it was hard to tell. The flock was not as large as the sand hill cranes and seemed about he same size but off in the distance it could be deceiving. I didn't bring my binoculars so who knows.

I was thrilled to see these today. Too far away to ID, guessing Scott's Oriols, but might have been Lesser Gold Finches? Terrible pic but wanted to share my jolly for the day.

I can't make them out. pixilated. We have yellow finches here. Sometimes dozens at one time. I have 4 bird feeders going. We especially like the red cardinals.

That's an awful lot of yellow and not much black to go with it. Course it is pretty much just a blob. I'm thinking some kind of yellow warbler.
