I saw a robin about 2 weeks ago. With all the bare ground I expected to see robins a month ago. Not many geese. Lots of loons,,, lots. Winter birds have been non existent . I haven't seen a flock of snow geese in over a year. Strange .
We have geese and robins year round here. I've seen a bunch of them now and then all Winter. Never saw them flock in the Winter before. I guess they do. The red wing blackbirds are back. I walk out my front door and three of them do their "tseer" warning call from the tops of the trees nearby. Have seen a LOT of honeybees on the crocuses popping up.
I think there were robins about all winter long here. I saw a mockingbird the other day, I don't recall seeing another for quite some time. I have noticed birds signing more in the early AM when I wake up during the past 2 weeks. Its still a while before the hummingbird feeder needs to come out.
To date I haven't seen any spring birds, though I'm not openly looking for them. My favorite is the hummingbird, but I don't expect them to reach this area until April 1st but no later than April 10th. It is possible they may be earlier. One was spotted on the 2nd of this month in Jackson Springs, NC. At that rate I might put out one feeder the same day we're supposed to do the DST thing. Setting the clocks forward an hour. Yesterday, I saw the first small column of geese coming north. Still have ice on the larger ponds but the smaller ponds are open. No robins yet. Suppose to be mid 60's today.
I have yet to see a Robin this year, and so far I've never seen a Redwinged Blackbird in this area. I did see a couple of Mockingbirds and a Bluebird yesterday though. The Hummingbirds as well as many others should be arriving earlier than anticipated due to the warmer temperatures. I noticed a hummingbird was spotted in Locust Grove Virginia, so I may have to mix up a small batch of nectar this evening. For me, the Hummingbirds arrival is a sure sign of spring!
Yesterday really brought in the spring birds. Robins, red winged blackbirds, sand hill cranes, geese, killdeer, etc. Amazing and a bit early for some.
I still have titmouse, juncos, cardinals, and southern chickadee's on the feeder daily. The doves are staring to come through in droves - 8 this morning. past few weeks I've seen large groups of Robins on the drive into work. A pair of flickers are scouting nest locations around my garage, waiting on the wrens to find some inconvenient spot to set shop Cleaned and filled the hummingbird feeders last week, we're in the 70's/50's this week so I expect a few early visitors
Same here. Driving out of the woods on Monday and saw three fly away (to Minnesota?). They'll be hard pressed to find bare ground around here for a couple days now....Its in the process of turning everything white once again.
