Helped an elderly neighbor yesterday (Sat 090923) with some storm cleanup. We were allowed to take any wood that was already down. We were able to move and clean up their property from fallen trees and get some free firewood. Mostly hard maple and poplar.

    Couple things come to mind:
If you're in church, post a note there.
As you get known, a note in other area churches.
Whenever folks 'work' for me, there is food, either on site or we go out somewhere.
So the idea of a gtg or two a year is a good one. If that sort of thing were happening around here, I'd come by for the oddball morning or day off to do a few hours' work.

I also keep wood here for other's use in a pinch. Now that I've achieved critical mass cord-wise, there are a couple cord I could part with if needed. So, it's my wood, if someone else doesn't need it, then its my wood.

Good stuff! Thank you for the input! Yes, it is through a church. Starting to get more attention and gain some traction. Food always helps!

It's been a while since I've been on and posted anything. We've donated and delivered a 15th truckload of wood this morning for this winter '23-'24. That makes 49 truckloads given away since 2021. However... the challenge we're facing now is that our church is selling the parcel of property that the woodlot is currently on. So we have to find a new home for the woodlot where we can split and stack. I'm hopeful that something will come about... but if not, it has been a blessing being able to help keep our friends and neighbors warm.

It's a lot of doing to start a 501C non profit, but if you have enough folks, forming one and then buying that lot or another lot might be an idea.
How many cord have you shipped out?

Cordwise, if a truckload is around 1/3, we've probably delivered a little over 16 cords? It's a small ministry, one that the folks volunteering help in their spare time. Might be worth looking into doing as a non-profit... Thanks for the thoughts and input!
