Ive been meaning to get some FHC swag, but not available currently. Whats up mods?
I like beech as well. My last score of it had twisty grain, which i noticed when i grabbed it, but a scarce scrounge for me. Im partial to one hit, half round splits for "cribbing" the ends. Had a bunch of cherry ones that made this recent stacking easier. IMG_2260.JPG

Very nice looking stacks! I get a straight grain once in awhile lol. Trying to make as many square splits as I can with the splitter. Some of the fir I’m mixing in is a little straighter near the base below all the limbs

Got the rest of the rounds split and stacked. After the storm passes I’ll get those beech logs cut and split to finish the stack. Just have some shorts and uglies left for the fire pit.

I hope the cribbed end standing alone can withstand some good wind! Picture perfect!

The cribbed end withstood the wind with no issues at all thankfully. Made decent progress the past couple days with a little help from a friend. We took three more beech down, got the limbs chipped and some of it blocked up. I finished blocking that and the rest of the beech logs I had this morning and split and piled some this afternoon. The tractor, a couple log hooks and a simple saw buck made it easy and quick work with the CS490.
Just the hemlock left to block up...

The stacks are coming along good now. Easy finish in the morning.

Looking pretty monumental, like your boulder! Is it a glacial erratic? Your cribbing is improving. Nice to get it done before warmer weather. 70's and perhaps 80 down here in a few days.

The warmer forecast is why I’m pushing to get it done. I can take my time on the hemlock. This whole place is a rock farm! This area is all glacially scarred, especially around the lakes. I actually hit the stack with a tree top I was pushing back out of the yard and thought it would go over, but we rescued it with a piece of plywood and a couple nudges from the Kubota and it ended up straighter than it was after a couple minor adjustments. Pure luck!

That stack is finished and the rest of the beech rounds got another one started. I’ll finish this one with hemlock. Time to do a little gardening this weekend.

Looking great! Time for it to bake. Our weather guy called plant-out day yesterday, you can't be far behind.

If you move that rock Maina, you’ll have more room for stacks!  On a more serious note, wow, what a rock, and nice work on getting on the three year plan:yes:

We’re lucking out, it looks like the heat will remain south of us awhile longer and I’m not complaining. I think it’s done freezing overnight though and we’re planning on planting this weekend. Hopefully I can get all the hemlock bucked today if the rain holds off.

Thanks! Actually I did dig the smaller one up and moved it to where it is and that was pushing the limits of the tractor, and I was impressed by how well it handled it. She’s a beast for a little thing!

Got half the pile bucked before lunch, just need the rain to hold off to finish. Once again the Kubota really makes it easy.
