    Pretty sure this is black cherry. Seems when I cut these up the bark appears lighter., and I begin to wonder if it is something else. Picture reminds me I left my pickaroon in the woods.

    i agree. I hate when i leave tools in the woods. Lost a Fiskars X25 in the leaves a few years back.
