    Welcome to the club pcable89 , I have no vote on your wood species as neither of those species grow here, I've never seem em'. If you got the wood, burn it!

    I've only come across Sassafras one time, but it burned and yours will too. Like everyone else said, keep your wood off the ground, and you'll be fine. And I think you'll love firewood hoarding! Who doesn't?!?!?!

    Another tree ID question - found this partially fallen tree on the back side of my property, appears to have been dead standing. Any ideas on what it might be? Couldn't find any leaves around as it appears to be dead. It is approx. 1 foot in diameter. There are a number of small hickory trees and a few small walnut trees in the vicinity.

    Looks like elm. Common for them to lose their bark when standing dead. Slowly rots from ground up.

    I have never split/burned sassafras or sweet gum so those last three pics look like some sort of pine to me.
