Got out this afternoon once the weather cleared and ran the splitter for a little over four hours. Gonna try and get out there in the morning and run it for a few more.
Back out this morning for a few more hours pile grew from picture 1 to picture 2. Wish it could do that on its own Round pile continues to shrink, but still has quite a bit in it.
one pile gets smaller and one gets bigger An amazing amount of work! Hats off to ya Haftacut Do you cull out the gnarlies and uglies as you are splitting?
Frantically trying to stay ahead of the heat! I keep telling my wife that I really want to be done by the end of the month. The help has abandoned me due to the ticks Seems one of the kids was bringing one home every time we split.
I do try and at least separate out the ones made by the splitter by tossing them in a pile. Once all is said and done, I’ll load em all in the truck and pick up the ones I miss. I’ll bet I’ll end up with a truck full! Good stuff for summer campfires!
Not totally sure what the final tally for the season will be. I have 84 face cord stacked in the barn. Everything else will be stacked outside. I was trying to figure what I have stacked at the wood yard today and I came up with around 27 face cord. I have 10+ in the big pile that I split the last couple times there, and then the pile of rounds yet to be split. You guys’ll be the first to know
FIL and I went in together on the splitter probably 6-8 years ago. It works very well. Still split most of my firewood by hand, but this year, I will have split most of the stuff I am stacking outdoors with it. It’s the story of the tortoise and the hare. Slower, but keeps a steady pace, especially when you got a lot to split. A couple weeks ago, my sone and I split and stacked 2 cord. I’d be a bowl of jello if I split that much with a maul at once!
Come on down to Dixie...bring that purdy splitter and the kids. We will give them some tick spray and free time in the swimming hole...it's next to the woodyard... It's staying in the 80's right now......
I’ll bet the swimming hole feels good after splitting in 80 degree weather! I got family in fort Oglethorpe/Chattanooga area, and usually visit them this time of year on our way to Cade’s cove area for our annual anniversary trip. Had to cancel with the whole virus thing. Lord willing, we’ll be back down there next spring. Might consider a fall trip depending on how everything is. Keep those fans running!
June, July and August we will split at night some... That's some beautiful country up there. We've been to Cades Cove several times. Ever been to the caverns in that area? That is neat...
Go through the park every time. Hike in to abrams falls. Haven’t done the caverns yet, but we plan to. Rent an Airbnb cottage at the top of a mountain and take it easy. We can see the lights of gatlinburg on a clear night, but that’s as close as I care to get. Take it easy, read, sleep in, stay up late, eat some good barbecue! We were bummed to have to cancel this year. Would have been down there this past week. Definitely need to try the caverns next time
Hadn’t been out to work on splitting for the past six days....for some reason the honey-do list never has “split wood” on it Able to get out for 5 hours of non-stop splitting this afternoon (except to refuel once). Picture 1 turned into picture 2! Round pile continues to shrink! I think I can finish splitting it all in two more sessions. The end is near
