Resurrected my very first "big" purchase. I bought these when I was 16 after a few paychecks, earned by pushing carriages. There were no motorized things either, manually pushed! Around $300 at Sears for this set of 12" Cerwin Vega's. So 22 years later they got re-foamed. Now I am in need of a real amp as my little surround one doesn't have the oomph. House is a bit under construction, pardon the disarray.
Those are sweet! The look like organ speakers almost! I’ve still got my shelf system with a tweeters and base boost button! That thing will shake the walls and shatter glass! Nothing better than a good set of speakers...
Based on the price of a basic stereo receiver with bluetooth built-in, it seems like it's an extra say $100 for a whole receiver versus adding bluetooth capability to the AVR I have now. Need to target the best bang for the buck. I've always scored free or $20 receivers from yard sales and such, maybe I'll keep my eye out. These poor things were in the basement for the last 10 years. I hope they forgive me!
Are they 8ohm speakers? Most newer tuners and surround systems are 4ohm they will never drive any decent sound on those speakers, which are awesome by the way!
I have some older audio stuff I've held onto for a while. Let me review what I still have and maybe we can work something out. And, we're about an hour away from each other. I'll be in touch.
I found an old Onkyo with three sets of speaker outputs. One wired to a pair of Polk towers in the den another to a set of rock speakers on the deck and a set run to the garage that were running a set of klipsch until the driver boards on those went south. Found a set of outdoor speakers at bestbuy on closeout that sound great.
The freebie receiver swap was a success. So... do I steal my daughter's setup? I'll see what else pops up before terminating kids bop in her bedroom.
I'm wondering if he couldn't change out the crossover network inside the speaker to match the 4 ohm amp. I have a similar set of speaker that I built in the 70's. My woofers need reworking. I had no idea they could be re-foamed. I did fry the original crossover network and had to replace that when I bought a new Onkyo receiver/amp (the heavy kind).
