175AC4B6-B26F-4946-8984-F2A3CA8B3948.jpeg Here is my vacant hearth. When my folks redid the kitchen they removed the old Ashley barrel stove, mom didn’t like the mess and it was way too big turning the house into a sauna.
For fun I’m interested what seasoned burners would suggest for this spot. My only experience is with pre epa stoves. I have some thoughts but I’ll save them for now.
The house is a center chimney cape cod. Roughly 2500 sq.ft. The vent will go into the black cap behind the cards. Chimney is roughly 25 foot 8x12 that will have a liner in it. There is a possibility of installing an OAK in this location. The biggest catch is there is only 63 inches between the brick on the wall and the closest point of the counter.
I have some time as I need to build my wood stash. So it will be put together piece at a time as the budget allows.
Thanks for any suggestions or advice and playing along with the strange things that go on in my head.

Is that counter attached to an island?
A lot depends on the stove you choose, and/or whether you're willing to cut off the counter some, or move the cabinet.
Floor will obviously need to be redone as well.
For that size house, and if you want to heat the whole thing with a wood stove, you may need to move the whole kitchen.:picard:
    JK
Is the chimney accessible from the other side (what looks to be a living room)?

Yes of course there will need to be something done with the floor.
The counter is a pinsula wthe the stove in it. I have thought about hacking off the rounded portion of the countertop as the shelves only purpose it to collect my kids toys. I haven’t thought about putting it in another room...it isn’t accessible on the right side because the door is to the cellar stairs but the other side could work.

Once all clearances are met, and all that, there won't be much of a walkway between the woodstove and peninsula if you put it in that spot.
Try doing a cardboard mockup of the stove you're thinking of installing.
Nah, no worries. My mother used to tell me quite often how snarky I am. No idea what she was talkin' about.:rofl:  I almost didn't put that part about the floor in, but we don't always see every detail when looking at a situation. I know I don't. :picard:

Thats a beautiful brick wall and its just screaming for a Fireview to be hooked up.

You'll need to break it to the wife that the island and stove hafta go ...:jaw:

BUT, with all the money you save on heating bills, you can go out to eat and you won't need the stove...o_O

    Ok...sorry...:emb:
but I was serious about the Fireview:handshake:

Safety always gets in the way of fun.

I have a rather dry matter of fact sense of humor. Wife often has to cut me off in social situations when she knows I’m going to say something that I think is funny and others get their feeling hurt.

Fireview likes a large rear clearance, but it sure would look nice right there.

    Nothing wrong with that.

I enjoy "hunkering down" during a cold snap or bad storm.

    Yepper.
Lots of other stoves that would fit there with perhaps some mods to the kitchen peninsula. How many cabs in the peninsula, Warner ?
Possible to remove one, then cut back the counter?

703F9972-E1F5-4D67-9121-ADD5BA7FC5FA.jpeg Here’s what we’re working with. If cutting the rounded piece off it would put me at 73 inches from the brick to the end cabinet on the right of the stove

96900D7A-8C83-445E-89F9-2542CB1AE17C.jpeg The only other spot that the flue would be accessible is on the right side of the book shelf. I’m quite sure the wife would rather me cut the counter than her beloved book shelf.

I don’t see why that wouldn’t be doable. I think your should be able to find a close clearance stove with a rear heat shield that can be within 6” of the rear wall. Figure 24” deep stove plus a few inches for handle etc. and you will have 30” of front clearance and for a walkway. If you cut the counter, even a big stove like the Ideal Steel would fit. It might look massive there, but it would fit!

I really like the looks of the ideal but I think my wife would like the absolute more. There was a massive stove there growing up it was too much

I have the IS, and it is a big hunk of metal. That said, the main body is “only” 24” deep and with the door and ash catcher it is 28”. With the rear heatshield and double wall pipe you can be within 6” of the rear wall. I don’t know how much space the heatshield takes but figure 2”? So I am guessing 36” wall to the furthest appendages, plus 30” walkway (and front clearance) would be 66” give or take. I think the AS might be smaller.

Don't forget floor protection in front of the stove needs to be 16" as well. If you could make that flush, wouldn't be as big a deal.
