Wow, All these posts talking about my place Any one is welcome to stop. I'm usually there from at least 5am into the afternoon. I've been trying to get out early once a week so I can do some office work. This running a business by myself is still pretty new to me. I keep getting surprises. I looked up April 22. That's one week after Easter so it shouldn't be too hard to get away from the bakery. I know I'm dog sitting somewhere around that time while my wife and daughter take a couple days to fly to Vegas. I'll let you know. Is it just me or does it seem we don't need so many fires this winter? I'm not going through half the wood I use to. What I am burning is all 3-4 year old seasoned Ash, Oak and ???. When that stuff is super dry it sure throws off a lot of heat. After I get through this stuff I'll be getting into some 3 year old Hickory. This question might belong in a new post but I'll ask it here anyway. I'm building an office in my basement for all the bakery/business things. Nothing too fancy. No extra walls, ect... What is missing is heat. Anybody have any input on these ventless gas space heaters? I'm wondering exactly how safe is burning natural gas in something with no vent. There is no way to put a wood stove down there. Any other recommended options to consider?
No help on the gas heaters Andy except that we once had a neighbor who used one in his house and liked it. I was in that house several times with it running and could not detect much at all. Good luck.
I am thinking that the office space you are creating is not in the bakery building? You must have a heating system in your home basement already that you can "tap into" and the cost would/should be deductible since it would be used for the business, no?
Yes your right. Office space is in the basement of my home. Furnace doesn't come on much at all if I am home since I will be having the wood burner going. Basement gets pretty cold. I need some sort of supplemental heat.
I have a friend with a ventless gas fireplace and he really likes it. It adds condensation, but probably wouldn't be bad as you must likely need the humidity if you're burnin wood. I know it really puts off heat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Andy, my parents just put a Mr heater ventless ng wall mounted heater in their cabin's basement as a back up. It seems to work well.
I am real hesitant on the whole ventless approach for obvious reasons. Although, if you think about it, a gas range is the same thing. But then, many kitchens do have exhaust fans now too. Maybe installing a fart fan in the basement with the ventless would be a consideration? With an OAK of some sort? How much do those ventless heater cost anyway?
What kind of space are you talking about? Those freestanding oil heaters that plug in are pretty economical. If it is on a timer then your office would warm up before you got down there.
Something like this might work as well. We had one on the boat. It has a double chimney so the fresh air is drawn down around the exhaust chimney. It has a fireplace ambiance. I don't know if they work on NG or not. Newport P9000 Propane Fireplace - Dickinson Marine
