As much as I want, without being a jerk. I have very little room for it, currently. But, I'll take some a day put it somewhere.
Thanks. I did the felling of them. The first resulted in me wearing the hat of shame. I was asked if I wanted use a Stihl Farmboss, 20in bar. As the tree was severely leaning, I decided to do a plunge cut, after I cut the wedge. Just before pulling out of the plunge, the bar got pinched. I think the tree shifted just a bit. We unbolted the powerhead, and I finished the back cut with my husky. I felt bad. He didn't seem too upset. I hope he is able to unpinch his bar. The last two, I used my 16in husky. One was really thick. I got creative with the wedge cut, as my bar was really too short. I cut two wedges, and then cleaned out between them, for a proper wedge. The felling cut was done by moving my saw around the back, instead of straight in. The pic of the stump is that tree. You can just make out one side of the wedge. Regardless, it came down with no problem. I learned to not push the plunge cut too far.
I just took some wood ashes to my SIL. She was telling her garden later today or tomorrow. Her other BIL had been there and took a couple loads of that red oak. The rest is mine. The thickest is about 16in, I think. I had nothing to measure with. I'm guessing the amount here is equal to what the tree service left me. >Cord
Oh... there's also about a 6ft length of the bottom this tree. There's a rock wall between it and the yard. To pull it out with the tractor, would trash the wall. The tractor can't reach it to lift it high enough to clear the wall. I'm going to try to split it lengthwise with several metal wedges. Noodle in a good trench before trying to split it. But, that won't be for a while. It's not in the way of anything.
While the day was still cool, I went to my SIL's this morning to deal with the red oak, cut in March I had a few friends when I got there. They drifted away The log pile pics out of focus -grrrrrrr You get the idea Just about of 2 tanks of fuel later - The sun was starting to hit the cutting area, so off I went. I'm hoping to get back some morning this week.
Nice work Mike and im not talking turkey! It was a very pleasant day and ideal for Summer cutting conditions compared to what we've been having. Ran the saws for a bit late this afternoon.
It was a cool morning. I was feeling good, motivated. So off to my SIL's to do some more wooding of the red oak. I cut and piled. Most still need to be split smaller, but that'll be a future effort. The longer limbs are 6-8 feet. They can be moved as is. Then, I spent time wedgin' n sledgin'. Just getting the rounds smaller, easier to move. Those limbs are also 6-8ft. There's still a few larger logs/trunks still needing to be cut. I pulled the limbs out and re-stacked, so I could access the larger wood behind them. I'll soon have empty racks, and this will help with the refill. I'll have options for when the moving day arrives. My buddy has an F250, that'll get it done. And, I might have available a dump trailer, that'll get it done more better. Time for a shower and Aleve.
