Just one word of warning. Once you see the tops of the ash breaking up, keep in mind that the very same thing is happening under the ground!!! Yes, the roots rot about 6" or so under the ground and one never knows for sure when the tree is going to tip over. I'd hate to be strapped into a tree when it falls.... Scotty Overkill You will be able to see several trees that have done this when you come this spring. Fortunately, we got all the big stuff down before that happened but still have a few of the maybe 16" diameter trees that need to come down. The smaller ones are no problem for sure and basically what we are doing now is clean-up work after all the borer damage.
Our haul from the job site so far.....nice trailer load of big, knot-free rounds. We still have several big trees to take down at this location.....stay tuned.....
I'm my experience here, some of the smaller saplings show no visible damage, not sure why. Maybe the cambiun layer isn't thick enough for the worm? Not sure.....
