Well despite the snow and rain fall I hit the woods again yesterday, cleaned up the red maples and dropped a decent sized cherry tree. At this rate I'll have another chord pretty soon plus a good sized haul of hemlock.
I use wedges on anything with a back lean. It keeps my bar from getting pinched, and I figure from all that clearing I should be able to get a good amount split and stacked.
Got a little done, but the weather just wasn't cooperating, but got split what I cut into rounds so still a good days work done.
I havent cut/ burned much cherry in a couple years... but has always been one of my favorite woods to cut. Smells good when cutting and when burning. Nice wood to heat the home with, and nice wood to cook with.
If I hadn't taken down the small red maple root suckers the cherry would have caught up and I'd have to get my neighbor and his winch to pull it down. I've heard nothing but good news about cherry, it splits pretty easy and burns with decent btus and dries quick, but the rounds with limbs were a real pain to split, of course the ice and snow didn't help. My old man has dibs on a round of the trunk for his smoker, in exchange I get a pound of the smoked ham.
