Great video .... That you are correct there is something special about that Solo, it sure does have a lot of grunt. Your 362 seems to cut that wood with no problem either, pretty impressive. Man, your times where like half the times that mine where you must be like Superman....

    Thanks for the video...

The only difference in the 681 and my 665 is the cylinder. So it would weight more. But not by much.

It shares a lot of Similarities with the Dolmar/Makita saws. So yeah, it's kind of heavy. :) But it's worth the weight :dex:

I'd say its closer to the 440 series about 5cc off (65cc vs 70cc). Dex or KRL will know more tech on it than I.

Yep. Around 20 lbs 7.5 oz with 20" bar and chain.

The MS 460 with 28" ES Light bar weighed in at 21 lbs 1 oz

The 681 has less material in the cylinder so it would weigh less by an ounce or two.

For comparison does Randy have any videos of his saws before and after? Would be cool see but like what @DexterDay said with that cant, it got much harder in a few months.

Let's not forget that the 665/675/681 are all built on the same chassis. So the 665 is really an 80cc saw (albeit pretty lightweight one!) wearing a 65cc top end. Dex's weights show it being comparable to a 70cc in weight. I'd really like to see how the 665 does against a 365 and how the 681 does against a 460. Stock or ported.

There is no denying that the 665 is wicked strong for 65cc however.

Don't forget that cant is white pine IIRC. Even dried out like it is, still going to cut much easier than the Pin Oak you were slaughtering in your vids.

Randy himself said something to the effect of the Solos somewhere on the web,
I will try to find the original quote, I am absolutly sure he could get something more out of them, you guys will have to make your own decision on what saw you want to put your extra bananas!

There was some smack talking going on a long time ago on race saws when it was the original site. They went to one of the bigger races and a guy raced a stock 675 against a stock 385 and the 675 beat it easily. The guy wanted to race the 681 and he told him he would take it easy and use the 675. Mostly a stock 681 will walk all over a stock 460, 372, and so on. Let me dig for some videos of Pauls 681 stock. I know we ran it the same day as a ported 2171 and 660 and maybe a stock 7300.

I remember that build off. I don't remember exactly who won but there wasn't a huge difference in cut times.

    Grazer, why don't you go whole hog and find a 694? You can have a 681 by putting a 300$ 681 C/P kit on a 665!

It's Poplar. And yeah, he was cutting Oak. Much longer cut times.

Gonna bust out my 460 and run a pass or two with the 16". We have video of MasterMech running my 460 with a 16" in the same Cant, so we can compare times. The cut times won't be the sub 4 second range like they were in May.

The Solo does have a mean sounding idle. Nice little "ring" to it. :dex:

I'm hearing you loud and clear!
