Social Security Spousal Benefits?

Whether you want to believe it or not there are still non-social security states.
Massachusetts is one of them. Teachers Union Employees pay into MTRS rather than social security.
So do some municipal employees. Some towns and some county governments within the state. Not all. Opt in-opt out. Within their respective programs. Union or not.

You can collect a union pension when you retire and if you got enough quarters in doing part time work outside of your union employment you can collect your pension and social security retirement benefits. I know too many people that are doing it. You can pay into both systems and collect from both.


The 1986/7 WEP LAw didn't eliminate alternate social security systems, it formed formulae for minimizing "double-dipping" that happens when you end up paying into both systems over the course of a lifetime and over the course of each quarter.

 

Had a case where a doper woman was killed by a boyfriend. Grandmother has the young children. I asked if they are getting social security money. Nope. Mother never worked. The payout to orphans is based on what the parent paid into the program.

there is some eye opening stuff when you research what one thinks SS does, and what it actually does.
Drawing mine as soon as I retire. If I wait until maximum amount possible, I could have drawn 80 thousand and had it being put to use.
from what I find, by the total dollars is the same at age 80, regardless of when a person begins drawing. All the lines on the age chart converge there. If you wait, and don’t draw, your spouse is left in a tight spot.

Some people will need every penny, but most can do something more constructive than leave it with the government.

 

Wisconsin has one of the best run pension plans in the country and yes I was a part of that.
