to be fair IS is about the size of a standard kitchen stove. 13 could probably fit in it

burning slow is not a very specific or even a repeatable condition. Your draft changes by some amount as the temp outside changes. My 'slow' burn could be 'far too slow' by someone else's definition.
Plus some stoves don't burn 'slow' any more because you can't slow the air input rate to "zero' any more. Plus some stoves the secondary burn tube air input is a different source than the primary air. The chimney just ends up sucking more air thru the secondary input when the primary is turned down.
I can get a black sooted window from burning "too slow" on the True North and I don't burn unseasooned wood. I learned about dry wood advantages decades ago. "Too slow on that stove is very very close to "fire goes out". I've done both.

    IS keeps the house comfortable..
I probably run it harder than most. Jan and feb try to keep STT 600+ as -20 happens most years.
Englander are not bad stoves, that one was way undersized for my needs.

Sounds like you might have had to push even a NC30 a bit...which was almost twice the size of the 13

.... It was a good stove, had one myself. But at I believe 1.8 cf it just doesnt hold much wood. I could get 4 hours of good wood burn, I too was feeding it constantly at low temperature. Like him we were asking a lot out of that little stove. I moved to the NC30 with a 3 somthing cf .... And now I can make it through the night and day for the most part.

Me too... Just underrated for the size of air it was trying to keep warm. Anything under 15 degrees (thats positive degrees :D) was a nightmare and back up of the House heater.

Heck I still push the NC30 at times, but now I'm pushing at 10 degrees, but without the house heater for the most part... depending on work schedule. A big difference between the NC13 and the NC30 in how much BTU's you can stack in there...

I don't know where your getting your stats from, but, they are not correct.
Cat stoves are very stingy with wood use.

He's probably reading the stats from available stoves today for sale at dealers in 2022.
Hybrids are CAT stoves, CAT stoves are not hybrids.
But I could be wrong, I'm not a mind reader.

EPA reports on CAT stoves vs tube stoves vs hybrid stoves. Do your own research and see. EPA reports are the most consistent vs individual operation which can vary greatly. Most EPA reports are listed on the manufacturer's site.

Luke I find the EPA numbers misleading as manufacturers perform the test with kiln dried 2x4s not cordwood.

of course they do easiest way to control wood variable in the testing phase. IME there is a huge difference between real world and scientifically controlled environments.

example wood be fireplaces in our winters they actually draw heat out of homes.

Not necessarily, some use cord wood...you have to look at the chart, see which way they tested each model stove...4th column from the right. They are in the process of changing the testing method yet again though...someone found some loopholes and exploited them...imagine that.
