I’m a huge fan of rusty metal primer and have used it with good success over the years on everything from cars to diy builds but the favorite by far was a log splitter that got totally rebuilt and painted so that’s what the axle is getting after a good wire wheeling and wipe down.

Can’t do much today so I am hitting the axle with a couple coats in preparation for paint.

My .02 if you havent found springs yet

    2,300 - 4,000 lb capacity

I had these on a utility trailer that i have since sold and regret selling. Trailered sooooo nice and the rubber torsion dampers acted like shocks. Very little sway and trailered sooo smooth.

Finally a warm day to really have at the trailer it’s almost ready for the springs! I’ve got brackets on one side welded up so tomorrow will be the opposite side then get the springs bolted on and trailer hauled outside so I can get the gate welded up.

The wheel wells where welded on to stay! Man that was a lot of grinding to get them off:hair: the trailer.

I’ve also got to figure out what to do for wiring protection the tubing that was on the bottom was collapsed in and rotted through in a few places.

I’m debating using pex to run the wires through to act as protection it would allow me to run it almost anywhere I wanted.

I also took the hinges back they are total crap... I can make better hinges than those :loco:  they where not drilled even side to side and the welds on them are just dragged accrost fast not even lapped for strength. :startled:

Time to either make em or buy a better hinge I don’t really want to fiddle fart with making them so....

I got sick of hunting and getting screwed over and lied to by all the craigslist and Facebook sales. Almost nobody is honest and wants new value for old garbage....

Ended up buying this cheapo until we can save for a good one with a ceiling trolly and it’s been alright so far. I greased it up changed the nuts to lock nuts and so far so good. It’s got a decent amount of slop but that doesn’t appear to be to big of an issue as long as I don’t forget....

$200. sounds like a bite, but it could be so much more. Are you going to be an oak floor bed on it? you will have enough invested when you are done, but you will have something that should serve you well for years to come. Getting into what will be the busy time. Spring is always too short.

Exactly what I was thinking...could use PVC conduit straps to hold it up...use SS screws on 'em

I’m still debating the floor it’s going to be expensive no matter what I do but I’m thinking about treated and calling it good for now. We need this fast and don’t really have time to wait this year... Major pain right there... My plan is to be done by the middle of April if not sooner. It might happen...

In regards to using Pex for the wiring, find out if it is uv resistant or not. I had some leftover from water lines in the house and used some to cover a cable for a kids swing. It became brittle and cracked surprisingly fast.

I am attempting to figure out where to put the tie downs at. There isnt really a good spot on the trailer for them. I think maybe along the bottom of the c channel outside of the bed would do ok. and then some recessed in the bed.

    What do you guys think?

They bed is about 52" wide...
