I bought por 15 but after a lot of research I’m not sold and now I’m kicking myself because I can’t return the paint.... $50 down the crapper I’ve used chassis saver with good results in the past but this trailer isn’t pure rust it’s got an epoxy paint in spots of the trailer and por will not stick to that. It will peel in a few years without the rust. All the moisture cured polyurethane is great paint but only over rust. The stuff doesn’t stick to bare metal without etching and even then it’s hit and miss.
It’s mainly for rounds so it’s 1*1 and doesn’t need to be as strong as the back gate. Mocking it up now.
*chuckle, chuckle, snort,...chuckle* It might be when the wife finds out how much he spent on it. PP, it's looking good.
The last piece a bulkhead It’s getting covered with expanded metal to protect the truck window. It’s just tacked right now. I had a heck of a time getting that 1/4” gussets tacked in the corners
Hasn’t even dropped The trailer has plenty weight capacity left 7000lb axle after all. I might be crazy Honestly the only heavy part is the back gate it’s a monster the side gate is maybe 25lbs and the bulkhead is even lighter. It’s just 1*1 square tubing.the gussets are 1/4” just because that’s what I had.
To be honest I am giving up some payload for the gate I’ve always needed a good gate in the back so it’s time for a solid gate. It hasn’t cost that much because a great deal of the metal is scrap from work. The 1*1 and 1*2 I purchased from a fab shop about $200 invested and the lights are about $150 for wiring, lights, cages and the junction box. The beauty of internet ordering way cheaper. It’s the lumber that’s gonna be the bank account slayer....
